Life in Villages

The villages are the souls of our country, and more than 60% of the population lives in villages. By 800 BCE, Several closely spaced small villages had emerged in the Gangetic plains. Agriculture was main occupation of the people of these settlements. The greater dependence on agriculture, rather than on pastrolism, gave people the opportunity to take up other occupations. People started specialising in different professions.
